KRÓNIKA - Summary

István Konkoly The history of the Szombathely diocese (The opening lecture of the Adolf Kune Commemoration) Szombathely diocese recollect Adolf Kune as its own great son whose life and activity were closely in connection with the diocese. In the person of Adolf Kune we celebrate the excellent natural scientist, the man of public life, the teacher, the spirited priest and the principal monk. His life-work is good evidence for showing that science and religion are not enemies, but they can even mutually help one another. The bishops’ example of Szombathely also reinforce this truth, who were the propagandists of belief and culture at the same time. János Szily’s and count János Mikes's works are particulary remarkable. The present bishop of the diocese together with its priests and congregation want to continue the traditions. While working hard in the interest of promoting religions life and simultaneously would like to serve the cultural, economical and moral improvement of the widest classes of society. Imre Endre Kovács The history of the Premonstratensian Order The Premonstratensian prebendary is the most wide-spread one among the monastic communities that follows The Augustinian Canons. It was named after the place where it was established. Saint Norbert, the later archbishop of Magdeburg founded the order in 1121. The order has male, female lines and a regular Third Order. The number of monasteries were about 600-650 in the 12th-13th centuries. It mainly spread in Europe, in the French, German and English speaking world in the 20th century. Its spreading is significant in Hungary, too. The first premonstrants settled in Váradhegyfok before 1134. The number of their monasteries were 40-45. Apart from the monastic life, the main activity of the order was to spread intellectual and material culture, the parochial pastorate and caritas. The order’s ecclesiastical body entrusted with notarial functions was significant in Hungary. The Hungarian premonstrants have worked as a scholastic order since 1802. The provostship in Csorna and Jászó had grammarschools in Szombathely, Keszthely, Kassa, Rozsnyó, Nagyvárad, Gödölló, Budafok and for a short time in Lőcse and Csorna. After the suppressing of the order in 1950, it began its activity again in 1989 with centres ins Csorna and Gödölló. 153
