as e. g. on the pulpit, the altars, the confessionals, the stalls of the canons and in the decorations of the organ. The Ground-Plan of the Cathedral, (ill. 8.) The Church has the form of a Latin Cross with a longstretched upper sanctuary enclosure and has three altar bays on each side of the Nave-Measures; length 78 m, 80, width 38 m. height 27 m. 98, height of the towers 62 m, 50, accomodation for 5000 persons. The exterior of the Cathedral, (ill. 9—13.) The lower part of the facade, flanked by two slender steeples, is interrupted by four powerful Toscan columns, the upper part by four ionic ones and crowned by a Triangular gable. (Rudolf Guby.) The organ with 40 registers is the workmanship of Ignatz Kober. The vault above it is decorated with the picture of the Immaculate Conception by Anthony Spreng. The roof-painting of the Nave (ill. 16.) represents the Birth of Mary and showes prototypes of the Old Testament. They are the work of the Viennese academical painter Anthony Spreng. On the cornice of the Nave there are the statues of the four great Prophets by Prokop. The picture of the first Bay-Altar on the north side of 208
