the Nave represents the Martyrdom of St. John of Nepomuk which is again Spreng’s work. On the Altar we can see the Relics of St. Placidus. The picture of the Altar in the second Bay is Stephan Dorf­­meister's masterpiece and represents St. Stephan, King of Hungary. Under the Altar there is the crypt in which repose the bodies of Count John Mikes, titular Archbishop, and of his mother. On the side wall we see a slab to the latter. In the first Bay on the south side of the Nave we see the Martyrdom of St. Sebastian by Spreng. On the altar there is a recumbent effigy of St. Rosalia. In the second Bay we find a masterpiece of Maulbertsch: Jesus hands the keys of Heaven to St. Peter (ill. 19.) The small picture by Spreng represents St. Charles Borromaeus. The roof-painting above the Nave is a splendid masterpiece of Joseph Winterhalder (ill. 21.) which is executed after a sketch of Maulbertsch. (ill. 20.) Subject of the picture: The Presentation of the Virgin Mary in the Temple of Jerusalem. On the south side of the Transept we see the ex­cellent Altar-picture by Maulbertsch: The Martyrdom of St. Quirinus, (ill. 23.) On the Altar the Relics of the Holy Cross in artistic setting, gift of Pope Pius VII-th to Cardinal Herzan. Above we find a copy of St. Mary's miraculous Image saved of the persecution of Cromwell and brought in Hungary by Valter, Bishop of Clonfert. (ill. 26.) There we see also the Baptismal Font of beautiful marble with a well chiselled relief representing the Baptism of Christ. The confessional of high artistic merit was executed by Bitterle and Brandenthal after a sketch of Hefele. (ill. 27.) Above the confessional and the entrance to the Vestry we see fresco-pictures by Winterhalder representing the life­­story of St. Quirinus, (ill. 22.) On the northern side of the Transept (ill. 28.) there is a fine Altarpicture by Maulbertsch: St. Martin in the splendour of his Mira­cles. (ill. 30.) In the monumental Herma are enclosed the Relics of the Saint. Above the confessional and the entrance to the chapel we find grisaile pictures by Winterhalder representing scenes of St. Martin's life. (ill. 29.) The large pulpit (ill. 34.) is the excellent work of Rumpelmayer after a sketch of Hefele. The fine decoration is Brandenthal's and Prokop's work.
