II. A magyarországi sörfőzés története
NAGYKANIZSA - KIRÁLY SERFŐZDE RT. Nagykanizsa városa a 19. század közepétől rohamosan fejlődött. A vasút megjelenése a gyáripart és a kereskedelmet is fellendítette. Ezen a vidéken a termény és a borkereskedelem is jelentős volt, azonban a filoxéravész következtében a bor ára magasra szökött. Ezért néhány helyi ipari vállalkozó és pénzintézeti igazgató elhatározta, hogy a növekvő igények kielégítésére sörgyárat létesít. A vendéglátó-, a szolgáltatóipar és az egyleti és társasélet fejlődésével a sör iránti helyi kereslet is biztosítva volt. A helyi Kereskedelmi és Iparbank elnöke, gelsei és beliscsei báró Gutmann Vilmos (1847-1921) indítványára a nagykanizsai vállalkozók 1892. június 30-án megalapították a Kanizsa Serfőzde Rt-t. A gyári komplexumot az akkori viszonyok között a legkorszerűbben rendezték be, 32 holdnyi területen. The railway appeared in town and this lead to an upsurge in both industry and trade. Both agricultural crops and wine trade were substantial in the region, but because of the phylloxera epidemic the price of wine skyrocketed. As a result, some local industrial entrepreneurs and finance executives decided to launch a brewery to satisfy the growing demand for beer. With the growing intensity in the hospitality and service industry, along with a surge in associational and social life, the local demand for beer was provided for. At the initiative of the Baron of Gelse and Beliscsei, Vilmos Gutmann (1847-1921), who was the chairman of the local Trade and Industry Bank, local entrepreneurs jointly launched the Kanizsa Brewery Stock Corporation on 30 June 1892. The brewery complex was equipped with the state of the art technology of the time, in an area encompassing ca. 45 English acres.
