II. A magyarországi sörfőzés története

In 1985-86 a corporate board was created, and the compa­ny’s management began to act somewhat independently and to operate partially along the lines of a market logic. As of 1985 they were given permission to trade freely domestically, and there were improved possibilities for competition. There was also a surge in the production of beers based on licenses. The company reintroduced the Dreher brand family, which proved hugely popular. The company became a stock corporation, with the state and the municipal government holding shares, in November 1993 the company was taken over by a new owner as the global South African SAB group acquired a majority of the shares. SAB invested in new production lines and installed labelling machines. They performed technological upgrades and installed a large-scale fermentation vessel and a new wort chiller. The brewery was equipped with automation and computer techno­logy. in 1994 they also bought the Nagykanizsa Brewery.
