Tudjuk, gyerekkora óta gyűjtötte a gasztronómiával összefüggő érdekességeket, anekdotákat, ismereteket, saját kiadásban adta közre a gasztrotörténelem eseményeit és érdekességeit, de leginkább saját elmélkedéseit. Geheimnis für Frauen („Titkok nőknek") című műve meghozta a külföldi sikereket is. (A könyv magyar fordítása folyamatban van, s tervezzük kiadását is.) Dobos jól és gyorsan írt. Gótbetűs könyvei kis példányszámban jelentek meg, de már-már irodalmi értékűek. Minden írásában hangsúlyt kap a gasztronómia. Történetei életszernek, olvasmányosak, gyakran jelennek meg bennük receptek, ételleírások is. 1904-ben jelent meg Budapesten a Die Phantasie auf der Reise, majd 1905-ben a Methamorphosen zur Phantasie auf der Reise. A sorozat következő tagja az 1906-ban kiadott Trilogie der Phantasie auf der Reise. 1907-ben két lanka Szentpáli - perhaps one of his regular customers - to translate them, before editing the translation and adding his own, original recipes and new pictures and then publishing it? (The book includes several typically Hungarian foods that were obviously his own creations, just as in the case of Rottenhöffer's work, in which Bavarian recipes were similarly added to the original French content.) Whatever the truth, the fact that the illustrations were identical probably lead to conjecture regarding the originality of the text, and this must have bothered Dobos, who was otherwise known for being extremely honest and upstanding: perhaps this is why the second edition was published under the alias Kár- oly Duby.
