Az első olimpiák (Siklódi Csilla)

ted already of 120 members. During the examplaryly organised and enacted competition the only problem was caused by the partiality of the Swedish umpires. Everything took place in the stadium, except the swimming and the fencing. Our fencer team prevailed a second time, since in individual they achieved all of the eight first places, except the fifth. The first place of Sándor Prokopp was a great surprise (300 m, military gun). He went in the last moment, partly on his own expense. The result of the gymnastic team is also to be mentioned, they achieved the second place with their free apparatus exercises, among the interesting we have to mention that Mór Kóczán who participated as an athlete of the FTC in one-hand javelin throw, could enter only under the pseudonym Miklós Kovács. As the lutheran priest of Göd he didn't get the permission of the presbytery, since according to their opinion it would have been incompatible with the priesthood. On the VI Ith Olympic Games, the Hungarian team was not allowed to participate, since Hungary was one of the vanquished countries. In 1924, Paris got the right of organisation. The performance was already much better, there were problems only with accommodation and the information of the participants. The successful numbers for the Hungarian were the fencing and the shooting. Gyula Halassy prevailed in target shooting, Sándor Posta in sword-fencing. In 1928 in Amsterdam, the national anthem of Hungary was played for the first time for Ferenc Mező who participated in the artistic competitons. The sword-fencing brought results once more for the Hungarian, they succeeded to get back the first place from the Italian, and they won even in the individual: Ödön Terstyánszky became first before Attila Petschauer, his compatriot. The victories of the lightweight wrestler Lajos Keresztes and of the boxer Antal Kocsis were unexpected. After they have come home, Miklós Horthy held a reception in honour of the successful participqnts of the Olympic Games. The picture in the album was made on this occasion. In Los Angeles, the Hungarian team got as many gold medals as never before, however the team consisted of only 47 members because of the big costs of the travel. Beside the already usual results of the fencers, the gold medals of the waterball-team and of the gymnast István Pelle were also great joy. This second prevailed even on two apparatus. István Énekes won in boxing the 5th gold medal for the Hungarian team. In 1936 in Berlin, the Olympiad was organised already under the shade of the swastikas. The numerous Hungarian team achieved again greater successes than never before. The elder generation mentions until today the three names having become a slogan: CsíkCsák—Lőrincz, learned by the world on the ninth day of the Games, after three Hungarian triumphs. Beside the traditional results of the swordsmen began the ladies, as well, the collecting of medals. Ilona Elek became first before the champions of the two previous Olympiads. Beside the triumph of the waterball team and of the three wrestlers: Zombori, Kárpáti and Lőrincz, we have to mention the boxer Imre Harangi, as well, who achieved the victory in a literally bloody contest. Till the end of the Games, the Hungarian team collected all together ten gold medals.
