TÓTH, S.: Remembering Miklós Marián (1914 - 2011) Abstract: Miklós Marián teacher-museologist was born on the 31st of March, 1914 in Szeged. After the high school graduation, he received natural-history-geography teacher's diploma from the University of Science of Szeged in 1937. He began his teacher's career at the Somssich high school where he taught for a decade. From the beginning he had strong attraction to nature, primarily in ornithology and herpetology. From 1951 he was an external contributor and from 1954 he was full time employee as a museologist in the Rippl-Rónai Museum. He was the museum's first science associate, as well as the founder of the natural history collection. His zoology research on the Lake Baláta has highly contributed to the fact that this interesting and valuable marsh became a preserved area known not only in Hungary, but in Europe as well. He has moved back from Kaposvár to Szeged in 1958, where he continued his work in the Móra Ferenc Museum. Besides the characteristic saltines of the plains, he has researched the Juniper of Bares, the Zselic and the bird and herpetology fauna of the Sopron mountains for many years. As the Secretary of the Tisza river research committee, he organized the explorations on the Hungarian section of the Tisza River for two and a half decades. He has retired in 1974 as the leading scientific associate of the Móra Ferenc Museum. Miklós Marián has joined the research of the Bakony area in 1963. As the founder of the „The natural landscape of the Bakony" program, he has actively participated in the area until the early 1990s. His most significant work was the volume: „The Herpetological Fundamentals of the Amphibian and Reptile Fauna of the Bakony-Mountains"
