The success of his work is proved by figures (the number and equipment of public schools, the number of those attending school), but in the work he was assisted by several schoolteachers of the comitat and the cream of the citizens, enthusiastic and fighting for public education and its improvement. NÜBL, JÁNOS: THE ACTIVITY OF THE SOMOGY COMITAT MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT IN TIIE CHAMBER OF DEPUTIES BETWEEN 1910 AND 1914 At the last general election of representatives in the dualictic era eight gentlemen became members of the first chamber with mandates gained in the constituency of Somogy comitat. Having examined the proceedings journals, the author aims at presenting the work and behaviour at the House of those eight Somogy comitat representatives before World War I. As an introduction to the topic, the study presents the Somogy comitat election of 1910 (voters, elections, the elected) and the political aspect and the activity of the Chamber of Representatives at the beginning of the 20th century. RÉCSEI, BALÁZS: THE RISE OF A „MIRACULOUS PLACE” AND ITS HANDLING BYTHE AUTHORITIES-THE APPARITIONS OF 1925 IN NAGYSZAKÁCSI AND THEIR CONSEQUENCES The study presents a Somogy county example of „miraculous places” of the modern times from the vision to the escalation of the events, then through the tragic death to the gradual ceasing of this manifestation of popular religiousness. The author also touches upon the tribulations of the chapel to be built in connection with the „miraculous place”. Knowing the Hungarian practice between the two World Wars, the description of the notorious events of 1925 called „the miracle of Nagyszakács” and their handling by the authorities show general characteristics, and in the procedures during the dualistic era. It is peculiar because among the measures taken to suppress the devoutness and pilgrimages that had become mass movements there was one which demanded human life. The events engaged the attention of the public opinion and the various authorities for a long time. The author treats the topic according to the nature of the sources as a spontaneous religious movement, without profoundly touching upon ethnographical or ecclesiastical legal issues. GYENESEI, JÓZSEF: ATTEMPTS TO REFORM THE COMITAT ADMINISTRATION IN THE 1920S (SECOND PUBLICATION) In the first half of the 1920s several suggestions and plans were born for the reformation of the territorial administration and municipal franchise in Hungary, and the scientific and professional conferences for the elaboration of the reforms came one after another. All the interested parties emphasized the necessity of change, but their timeliness was questioned openly by the comitat circles and implicitly by the governmental forces. For want of real reform intentions, substantial changes in the structure and functioning of the comitats did not follow. TÓTH, ÁGNES: SOME CORRELATIONS BETWEEN TIIE AGRARIAN REFORM AND THE CHANGES IN SOCIAL STRUCTURE IN SOUTHERN TRANSDANUBIA (1945-1949) Continuing the row of of her well-known excellent works related to settlings and relocations, the author focuses on the execution of the agrarian reform and its consequences. The social changes in a well-defined region -especially that populated by the Székelys of Bukovina- are descibed, demonstrating the political considerations with a problem-centered approach. The results of a profound research based on social statistical and other historical sources are laid before the reader.
