Work with our collections The Postal Museum’s collections grew with the addition of the following items: A major factor in the growth of the Postal Museum collection was the donation of an entire model post office that had been used by the Gervay Mihály Specialized Secondary School for Postal and Economic Services, when it was closed down and merged with the Varga István Specialized Secondary and Specialized School for Commerce and Economics. The Stamp Museum’s collections grew with the addition of the following items: Collection of Hungarian stamps 46 299 Collection of foreign stamps 18 285 Miscellaneous collections 1 818 Library 19 Investments As already mentioned, we replaced the automated fire-fighting equipment at the Stamp Museum, using 20 million forints in earmarked funds transferred to us by the Hungarian Postal Service in 2005, and about 8 million forints in foundation monies. The actual project consisted of the most up-to-date fire protection equipment for the Stamp Museum, although the project was not paid for in the 2007 fiscal year, since inspection and transfer of the finished project was delayed. As of December 31,2007 only 5.3 million forints had been paid. (This means that 22.7 million forints was not paid out in 2007.) Exhibitions • April 3: A temporary exhibit opened at the Stamp Museum, including the works of 30 artists who make up the Altamira Arts Society. Environment Minister Miklós Persányi opened the exhibit. • April 24: The exhibition called Grapes, Wine and their Ties to the Postal Service, opened in Kőszeg, W Hungary. • End of April: An exhibition marking Stamp Day opened at the headquarters of the Hungarian Philatelic Society with museum assistance. It was called Graphic Prints of St. Elizabeth in the Stamp Museum. • June 19: We opened a temporary exhibition consisting of 10 tableaux in the Rezső Soó Memorial Hall of the Diligence Museum in Debrecen, E Hungary, on the eve of Museum Midsummer’s Night. • July 4: Working together with the Natural Science section of the Janus Pannonius Museum in Pécs, SW Hungary, we opened an exhibition called Insects on Hungarian Stamps at the Postal Service Headquarters in Pécs. • September 20: We provided the artefacts for a display of Tivadar Puskás’s patent documents and related correspondence organized in the conference hall of the Hungarian Patent Office.
