László Egervári The Communications Museum Foundation Report for 2007 Administration and Management On the surface, 2007 was a peaceful and quiet year in the life of the Communications Museum Foundation, but if we delve deeper into the details of the tasks completed throughout the year, the changes become obvious. Calling 2007 a landmark year is not an exaggeration. It marked the end of an epoch in the foundation’s 17-year history, a generational shift in the life of the foundation’s museums. The directors of both museums retired. We selected and appointed successors, and did so from among the museums’ own personnel in each case. Apart from the changes at the helm, there were four important events involving issues between founders and the foundation that had been unresolved for years. We concluded the Gyáli Road move, and as of May 17, 2007 we opened the Tele- Archive at Miskolc, NE Hungary, making it the third facility in the country with archives/ storage facilities able to hold exhibitions. For all practical purposes we have completed the updates and upgrades in the lighting and firefighting systems of the Stamp Museum - the quantitative aspects of the upgrade have been approved by the museum - following completion of the investment project over the course of 2007. Another task completed during the year involved transferring a sculpture called Rákóczi’s Courier, located in Székesfehérvár, W Hungary, a task that had remained unresolved for over a decade. The transfer included full and complete restoration of the statue. Another issue we resolved concerned the Emitel Tele-Gallery at Kiskunhalas, SE Hungary, which though built years ago, lacked the conditions required to actually open it. As of December 2007 it was finally opened to the public as a branch of the Postal Museum. We believe that the consistent support given the foundation by the Ministry of Education and Culture and the minister’s praise for the founders’ top managers regarding the Tele- Archives in Miskolc were the outcome of our efforts. We considered it important to tighten up ties between the founders and the foundation in 2007, for the owners of Magyar Telekom specifically called for more intensive interaction between the business flows of the founders and the foundation. We worked jointly to build ties with the Hungarian Postal Service and Antenna Hungária management, too. The result was that with help from the founders, we replaced signage and publications in our museums and exhibition facilities to include our founders. The yearbook for 2006 included the emblems and names of the founders on the inside cover. We received uniforms and began using them for museum guards, reception staff and other staff members who have direct contact with visitors. We now include the emblems, logos, names and banners of our founders in our exhibitions. Bids for funding Last year we submitted four bids for funding and in one case received a grant of 500 000 forints, which we used for pedagogical programmes within the Stamp Museum. 214
