János Csonka the creator of the Hungarian post car The study of Vince Mészáros remembers János Csonka (1852 -1939) the creator of the Hungarian post car.The author summarizes the life work of János Csonka with great positive knowledge, rich literature based on independent research. The study follows his life from the goldsmith workshop of the handy -man of Szeged through the factories of Vienna, Zurich, Paris and London -where he lived and worked -to the training shop of the Mechanical Engineering Department of the Budapest József Technical University. Csonka as the foreman of the traning shop, managed the practical training of the students for almost half a century, from 1876 to 1925. But this natural genius was first of all an inventor: the first relibly operating gas motor, manufactured in Hungary, is related to his name. He manufactured gas motors in such a country, where, according to the statistical data of 1884, 92% of the power machines of the industrial companies were steam engines! His first patent was on ‘a gas and petrol motor* in 1884, then, together with Donát Bánki they manufactured the first Hungarian four -strike Ottó system motor. Their sensational invetion was the carburetter -the fuel feeder -that was bom in 1893.* The technical development intentions of the Hungarian Post met the expertize and creativeness of János Csonka. Our inventor manufactured letter collecting and parcel delivering motor driven tricycles (1899) Which were used in the letter collecting service of Budapest up to the 1920* s years. These tricycles were succesful in the World Fair of London. He manufactured the first parcel delivering post car in May 15, 1905, the maximal velocity of Which was 35km Vhour.
