STUDIES - Szabolcs Anzelm Szuromi: Canon Law Handbook by Ivo of Chartres

116 SZABOLCS ANZELM SZUROMI has been inserted, step by step - based on the peculiarity of the place of usage - a developed inscription or rubric system. Obviously, the earlier manuscripts also suffered some later supplements at their place of using, especially in those parts which were used frequently by the possessor. Unfortunately, those early copies of the Decretum and the Panormia, which we have analyzed, and even the Panormia's manuscripts of Munich,107 arose in the 12th century. But this fact does not render doubtful the traditional date of origin of Ivo’s works, which is the end of the 11th century (1093-1095). Moreover, the script style of the Strassbourg, Bibliothèque Nationale et Univ. 108 perhaps testifies to the very end of the 11th century. However, the inclusion of Pope Urban II and Pope Paschal II is significant, because their canons in the ending supplementary material of the Cambridge, Corpus Christi College Ms. 19 (Decretum) show that the enlarging of the context of Ivo’s works had begun immediately after the theoretical date of origin and it was continued at the very beginning of the 12th century. 107 München, Bayerischen Staatsbibliothek, Cím 2593; Cím 4545; Cím 6354; Cím 11316; Cím 17099; Cím 17100; Cím 28223; Cím 22289 (Prämonstratenserkloster Windberg); Cím 29172 (Augustinerschoherrenstift St. Mang in Stadtamhof bei Regensburg).
