Bovicola sedecimdecembrii sedecimdecembrii Eichler, 1946; Syn.: Bovicola sedecimdecembrii Eichler, 1946; B. sedecimdecembrii Kadulski, 1977 - Found in Poland on the European bison (Bison bonasus L.). Lepikentron Kéler, 1938 Lepikentron ovis (Schrank, 1781); Syn.: Pediculus ovis Schrank, 1781; Trichodectes sphaerocephalus Nitzsch, 1818; Damalinia ovis Piotrowski, 1964; Bovicola ovis Patyk, Jasek and Buchalski, 1970; Piotrowski, 1977; Kamysek, Wertejuk, 1983; Bovicola (Lepikentron) ovis Skuratowicz, 1974 - Presumably a cosmopolitan species. Known from Central Western and Southern Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America, Australia and New Zealand as a parasite of the domestic sheep (Ovis aries aries L.). Also found on the mouflon (Ovis aries musimon Pall.) in Western Europe. Lives on the forehead, neck and body of the host. Extremely severe infestations have been observed in Australia with more than a million lice on one host individual. Usually no more than a dozen individuals are found on a host in Hungary. Rhabdopelidon Kéler, 1938 * Rhabdopelidon longicornis (Nitzsch, 1818); Syn.: Trichodectes longicornis Nitzsch, 1818 - Known from Central and Southern Europe and New Zealand as a parasite of the red deer (Cervus elaphus L). Occasionally found on the roe deer (Capreolus capreolus L.) too. Infestations tend to appear in winter. Like for Bovicola bovis, most individuals are females. These species multiply by parthenogenesis, as the males are rare. The typical male/female ratio of this species is about 1/10. Werneckiella Eichler, 1940 Werneckiella equi (Denny, 1842); Syn.: Trichodectes equi Denny, 1842-A cosmopolitan parasite of the horse and donkey (Equus caballus L. and E. asinus L.). There are two subspecies, however, only one of these has been found in Hungary. * Werneckiella equi equi (Denny, 1842); Syn.: Bovicola equi Kéler, 1934, 1939; Damalinia equi Piotrowski, 1964 - Found on the domestic horse (Equus caballus L.) in Hungary. Damaliniinae Eichler, 1941 Cervicola Kéler, 1938 * Cervicola meyeri (Taschenberg, 1882); Syn.: Trichodectes meyeri Taschenberg, 1882 Occurs in Central, Southern and Western Europe as a typical parasite of the roe deer (Capreolus capreolus L). Described from Asia from Capreolus pygargus Pall. Exceptionally found on red deer (Cervus elaphus L.) in Poland. Was also found on fallow deer (Dama dama dama L.) kept in zoo, and occasionally on a goshawk (Accipiter gentilis L.) as a straggler (déserteur).
