Mathevotaenia symmetrica occidentalis ssp. n. (Cestoda: Linstowiidae) from Rodents in Hungary Dr. Éva MURAI Zoological Department of the Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest "Mathevotaenia symmetrica occidentalis ssp.n.^from Rodents in Hungary (Cestoda, Linstowiidae)" - Murai, É. - Parasit. Hung. 7. 143-150. 1974 . ABSTRACT. The cestode species M. symmetrica (Baylis ,1927) was first found by the author in rodents (Mus musculus spicilegus and Rattus norvegicus) in Europe. On the basis of the specimens collected in Hungary, the author describes a new subspecies under the name M. symmetrica occidentalis ssp.n . In the course of helminthological examination of Hungarian small mammals, a cestode species, Mathevotaenia symmetrica (Baylis, 1927) Akhumyan, 1946 (syn.: Catenotaenia symmetrica Baylis, 1927, Oochoristica symmetrica (Baylis, 1927) Meggit, 1934)(Linstowiidae ) has been found in two host species. One Rattus norvegicus and one Mus musculus spicilegus specimens were both caught in the suburbs of Budapest. The living hosts were transported to the Helminthological Laboratory of the Museum and dissected by the author. Three specimens of M. symmetrica were found from the small intestine while alive ,collected , and fixed in 10 % hot formaline. Cestodes were stained by hydrochloric-acidic-carmine and examined in total préparâtes, or after having been embedded in paraffin serial sections were made from the segments. The sections were stained with haematoxyline-eosin . Examination of the worms revealed that although they stand near 143
