Its right belonged to the king until 1918, later it was transferred to the individual bishops. After 1950, however, the Communist dictatorship invaded this sector of ecclesiastic life — without having been authorized by any law. The formula „with the consent of State Office for Church Affairs" appeared in the text of conferring honours of Székesfehérvár from 1952; it remained in different forms until 1983. Nevertheless, the small subtleties of compositions often give evidence about who was honoured by the bishop under state pressure, and who was by the bishop's own will. In 1957 a Vatican decree condemned more „peace priests" inordinately loyal to the state. The state used every means to rehabilitate these people, including honours as compensation. After 1958 the Hungarian Catholic Episcopacy took the view that to avoid the greater harm of the dioceses the bishops can act freely on the concerned people's responsibility. The bishop of Székesfehérvár had the right to give 11 titles of abbot and provost. The study gives details about the cases when the state's intervening either with forced or hindered nomination in the honouring culture of the Church can be realized.
