Seventeen thousand meters of historical source/Introduction of the main archives
cases; therefore it is one of the most valuable sources of the county. There are no files belonging to the reports, the document numbers indicated in them can be found in the archive of the Vice-Lieutenant. From the documents of the Vice-Lieutenant, from the era from 1876 to 1950 about 1300 linear meters remained. This is one of the most researched fonds from the above-mentioned era. The complete functioning of the county can be revealed from these documents. The activity of the Vice-Lieutenant office extended to all fields of life. Higher level decrees, just like the resolutions passed by the county convention were carried out by the county staff of officers governed by the Vice-Lieutenant. The largest substance of the ViceLieutenant fond is the collection of the public documents resulting in 1,200 document linear meters. This is the most complete source for our researchers; the documents were created during execution of government decrees, and also those related to the cases discussed by the county convention. The public administration documents of the 19 th century had been sorted and discarded unprofessionally and excessively but the rest of it endured quite well and can be researched with the aid of reference books. We handle almost 100 linear meters of the documents of the Verification Committee of the County Municipal Board and the Central Committee altogether. These institutions were responsible for creating the lists for the municipal and parliamentary elections. The names of settlements being in alphabetical order makes the research in the name registers easier. The size of the documents of the County Orphanage institute endured is similar to that of the ViceLieutenant. The county with the exception of the towns was the trustee and guardian of the orphans living in its territory. The appointed trustees were obliged to report on handling the orphans' properties they are being in charge of. The Head of the Orphanage Institute was the leader of this authority, and he had independence to some extent in respect to the Vice-Lieutenant.
