Brief history of the Pest County Archives

The Pest County Archives, currently storing more than 17000 linear meters of documents, is the third largest amount of documents stored in a public archives after the National Archives of Hungary and the Budapest City Archives. The usage of the archive material and informing researchers are aided by the archive registers printed in 1998 and kept in up'to'date format even alter moving, and the reviewing storehouse registers located in the research facilities. Researches are supported by the valuable technical library of the Pest County Archives that currently holds 16044 works, altogether 35523 volumes, and 49 CD-ROM's. í'lte Nagykőrös Branch oj the IVsi (launly Archives The branch opened on April 28, 1973 is the regionally separated organization unit of the Pest County Archives whose archival competence includes the area of South-Pest County. The archive branch stores and handles all the document producing archival material created in its competence area, and during its functioning it manages the archival special tasks in hill scale (inspection of collection area, organizing, managing, aid-preparation, discarding, supporting research, customer service). The capacity of the archives branch originally designed to store and handle 2000 linear meters of documents, increased to over 3000 linear meters up to these days. The offices, research room and library of the archives and also part of its document storages can be found in the building, which was built in 1931 to serve the district court, but document storing rooms got formed in the former detached house built together with the Court House (built in 1910) and in the side-wing, which was built for archival purposes on the same property (built in 1983). There are Dexion-Salgó shelf-structures in all our storing rooms, the heat and the relative humidity of the storing places are proper for storing archive documents in the long run.
