Осенью 1977 года в Будапеште на трёхстороннем австрийско-чехословацко-венгерском совещании было принято решение о более тесном сотрудничестве этих стран в рамках RISM. В 1977 году Библиотека им. Сечени стала членом новой международной организации, IADA (Internationale Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Archiv-, Bibliotheks- und Graphikrestauratoren). Продолжали развиваться непосредственные связи с библиотеками социалистических стран, за исключением Румынии. В 1976 году снова возросло число учреждений, с которыми практикуется обмен стажёрами (Краков, Библиотека Университета им. Ягелло). Большинство командировок с нашей стороны организовывалось с целью розыска и учёта находящихся за границей хунгарикумов. Шесть наших сотрудников получили стипендии для работы в странах Западной Европы. За два года наши работники приняли участие в 49 международных совещаниях, в 35 случаях в соседних социалистических странах, в 14 случаях в странах Западной Европы. Общее число заграничных поездок в 1976/77 гг. было 136, из этого в социалистические страны — 113. На более длительное пребывание за два года из-за границы было принято 72 библиотекаря. THE ACTIVITIES OF THE NATIONAL SZÉCHÉNYI LIBRARY IN THE YEARS 1976—1977 In the past two-year period the Library continued the implementation of the reforms started in the early 1970s, whose conclusion is expected by the end of the present decade. As a result from 1978 the national bibliography is to appear regularly in a computerized form, based on the UNIMARC system. The completion of these reforms will lead to the modernization of traditional library work, to compliance with international standards and consequently to participation in the various international information systems. The year 1977 was the 176th anniversary of the foundation of the Library. It was in 1802 that Count Ferenc SZÉCHENYI presented his private collection to the nation so that it could form the basis of a larger collection of nationwide significance. In this way 1802 is not only the foundation date of our library, but the birth of all the Hungarian museums, and primarily of the National Museum, is connected with this donation. In October 1977 the National Széchényi Library and the Hungarian National Museum jointly celebrated the anniversary and marked it with a joint exhibition. The death of Dr. Géza SEBESTYÉN, Deputy Director-General of the Library, in 1976 was a very serious loss for the institution. During the nearly two decades of his activities in the Library he initiated and started many programmes, including mechanization and computerization, which represent milestones in the life of the national library. Dr. SEBESTYÉN was an outstanding personality and expert in Hungarian librarianship, who was also well-known and estimated on the international scene, and was an indefatigable worker in the cause of inter-library co-operation. Acquisitions, the augmentation of the holdings The numerical details of the increase in the holdings are supplied in Tables 1 and 2 respectively. We are laying increasing stress on one of the basic functions of the Library, the collection of Hungarica. We have elaborated guidelines for their collection, and have 66
