E-mail: csosz@zoo.zoo.nhmus.hu Abstract - The ant material of the Natural History Museum in Sibiu/Nagyszeben/Hermannstadt (Romania) is one of the most important collections in Romania. Although it does not contain a large number of specimens, its value is appreciated on the basis of its age (it was founded in the 19th century), and due to its valuable content: a part of the material comes from PAUL ROSZLER who described a number of ant taxa, whose statuses are still unclear, and some of its type material is present in this collection. Due to the fact that the study of the ant material is possible only in Sibiu, the material was only once studied, but only partly and insufficiently. The collection contains 780 specimens of 44 species. Thirty species come from Romania, including 29 from Transylvania and 19 from the surroundings of Sibiu, but there are species from Hungary, Bulgaria, Greece and other countries. Several identified species are rare for the Romanian ant fauna: Myrmica rugulosa, M. specioides, M. lonae, M. salina, Tetramorium impurum, Leptothorax tuberum, L. affinis, L. clypeatus, Formicoxenus nitidulus, Crematogaster schmidti. Some of these species have never been published in the Romanian fauna up to now, e.g. Myrmica specioides, M. lonae, Leptothorax clypeatus, Formicoxenus nitidulus. EINLEITUNG Die Ameisenfauna eines Landes zu kennen, setzt nicht nur das stetige Sammeln voraus, sondern auch die Bearbeitung von bereits vorhandenen Museumsmaterialien. Eine der repräsentativsten und wichtigsten Ameisensammlungen Rumäniens - und, innerhalb dessen, Siebenbürgens - befindet sich in der Tiersammlung der Naturwissenschaftlichen Abteilung im Hermannstädter Brukenthal Museum. Diese Sammlung ist nicht nur wegen seiner Größe wichtig, sondern vielmehr wegen ihres Alters, und der Besonderheiten der sich in ihr befindenden Materialien.
