Kordos-Szakály, M.: New data to the Miocene flora of Nógrádszakál (Hungary)

Fig. 6. Chronological sequence and evolution of the Arcto-Tertiary species (see text) nected Eger-Tihamér with the older age and Paris stream with the younger one. Thus there is a difference expressed by 2 million years and 22% common species between the floras of the two localities. Consequently, supposing an uniformity, during 1 million years a linear advance of 11 per cent can be estimated. "Distance in years" from the flora of the Paris stream determined with the aid of the différence of C sp values of further localities are the fallowings : Buják 0.7 million years = 13.3 million years Mikófalva 0.8 million years = 13.2 million years Bánhorváti 1.2 million years = 12.8 million years Sály 1.4 million years = 12.6 million years Balaton 1.6 million years = 12.4 million years This extremely rough process does not contradict the chronological data determined for the Sarmatian Stage of the Middle Paratethys (HÁMOR & SZENTGYÖRGYI 1981, STEININGER & RÖGL 1983). The stratigraphical position of the different localities were given for the first time by SCHRÉTER (1959) and later by ANDREÁNSZKY (1959) in his monograph. A revision of these formations was published in the volumes of the scries of Eger and Miskolc "Explanatory for the 1:200 000 geological map series of Hungary". According to the them Mikófalva can be connected with the Upper Rhyolitic Tuff while Sály is in its covering deposit. The layers with plant remains at Bánhorváti are in the "Sarmatian" andesite-agglomerate and the flora at Balaton is in the so-called "Uppermost Rhyolitic Tuff" level. The stratigraphical order and its chronostratigraphical range show good agreement with data obtained by paleobotanical and biological methods. SUMMARY With the review of the whole collected material of the Nógrádszakái floras hitherto known only as sporadic finds our knowledge on the Hungarian Middle and Upper Miocene floras has become fuller with the following new data: At Nógrádszakái there are two localities which are in a close
