subtooth at its base. Eye in lateral view 1.8 times higher than wide, its width one-fourth greater than temple. Ocelli on an equilateral triangle, distance between two ocelli somewhat longer than greatest diameter of an elliptic hind ocellus. OOL twice as long as POL. Head polished. Face along inner margin of eye densely rugulose. Clypeus uneven. Antenna distinctly one-half times as long as body, with 31 joints. First flagellar joint thrice as long as broad, further joints gradually shortening and slightly attenuating so that penultimate joint distinctly twice as long as broad. Thorax in lateral view distinctly 1.4 times as long as high. Thorax polished; propodeum uneven, medially subrugulose. Notaulix restricted to declivous part of mesonotum. Mesonotal dimple before prescutellar furrow absent. Sternaulix distinct, smooth. Hind femur four times longer than broad distally. Hind tibia and tarsus equal in length. Fore wing somewhat longer than body. Stigma (Fig. 3) six times as long as wide, issuing radial vein proximally from its middle. Latter reaching tip of wing, rl short, rl 1.7 times as long as cuqul, r3 distinctly twice as long as rl. Cui slightly narrowing distally. N. rec. antefurcal, d onefourth longer than n. rec. Metasoma in lateral view as long as head and thorax together. First tergite (Fig. 2) 1.5 times longer than wide at hind, moderately broadening posteriorly, i.e. one-third wider behind than basally; converging two keels merging into the rather longitudinal uneven-subrugulose surface behind middle of tergite. Further tergites polished. Head, thorax and first tergite brownish black; face and pronotum laterally, mesopleuron below and above with rusty to reddish suffusion. Metasoma brown, tergite 2 and fore half of tergite 3 yellow. Sternites 1-3 pale yellow. Legs yellow, coxae and trochanters whitish yellow. Clypeus, labrum and mandible (its apex dark) yellow, palpi whitish yellow. Antenna brown; scape yellow, pedical and flagellar joints 1-3 darkening brownish. Wings subhyaline. Stigma and veins with greyish-brownish pigmentation. 9 and host unknown. Locality - Holotype cf : USA, Maine, Oxford Co., Bryand Pond, 23 July 1976, leg. G. HEINRICH. Holotype is deposited in the Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest; Hym. Typ. No. 5277. The new species is dedicated to its collector, Dr. Gerd Heinrich (Dryden, Maine, USA), a wellknown specialist of Ichneumonidae. The new species, O. gerdi sp. n., is related to O. costaricensis FISCHER, 1962 (Costa Rica) within the subgenus Pendopius FISCHER; the distinction between the two species is tabulated below: O. gerdi sp. n. Head in dorsal view somewhat more transverse, 1.9 times broader than long; head behind eyes rather rounded (Fig. 1). Propodeum uneven, medially subrugulose. First tergite 1.5 times longer than wide at hind (Fig. 2); rather longitudinally unevensubrugulose. 4. Antenna with 31 joints. O. costaricensis Fl. 1. Head in dorsal view somewhat less transverse, 1.7-1.8 times broader than long; head behind eyes rather contracted (Fig. 4). 2. Propodeum rugose with some strong rugae. 3. First tergite subquadrate, at most slightly longer than wide at hind (Fig. 5); almost evenly and somewhat granularly rugose. 4. Antenna with 35 joints. Within the subgenus Opiothorax FISCHER the new species is allied to O. interjectus FISCHER, 1965 (USA: Florida); they may be distinguished by a few specific features: O. gerdi sp. n. 1. Antenna with 31 joints; penultimate joint distinctly twice as long as broad. 2. N. rec. antefurcal; rl 1.7 times as long as cuqul ; r3 distinctly twice as long as /-2 (Fig. 3). 3. First tergite 1.5 times longer than wide at hind (Fig. 2); its surface rather longitudinally uneven-subrugulose. 4. Head in dorsal view 1.9 times broader than long (Fig. 1). O. interjectus Fi. 1. Antenna with 20 joints ; penultimate joint only 1.5 times as long as broad. 2. N. rec. postfurcal; rl only 1.3 times as long as cuqul; r3 1.9 times as long as rl (Abb. 726, in Fischer 1977, p. 791). 3. First tergite 1.15 times longer than wide at hind; its surface granularly rugose. 4. Head in dorsal view twice broader than long.
