Papp, J.: Taxonomical and faunistical novelties of the Opiinae in the Arctogaea (Hymenoptera, Braconidae)
Opius (Opius) mendus sp. n. $ (Fig. 6) 9- Body 2.4-2.5 mm long. Head in dorsal view transverse, 1.8-1.9 times broader than long, behind eyes temple rounded, eye only somewhat longer than temple. Face together with clypeus almost quadrate, slightly wider than high. Clypeus semicircular, twice wider below than high medially. Distance between tentorial pits twice greater than distance between a pit and lowest point of eye. Mouth closed. Mandible angularly broadening basally, i.e. with a subtooth below at its base. Eye in lateral view 1.7 times higher than wide, somewhat elongated, i.e. widest at its upper half (Fig. 6); width of temple slightly greater than that of eye (Fig. 6). Ocelli on an equaliteral tringle, distance between two ocelli as long as to slightly longer than greatest diameter of a hind elliptic ocellus. OOL twice longer than POL. Head polished; face and clypeus almost smooth, i.e. faintly uneven, shiny. Antenna nearly twice as long as body, with 30-31 joints. First flagellar joint thrice longer than broad, further joints gradually shortening and very feebly attenuating so that penultimate joint twice longer than broad. Thorax in lateral view 1.3 times longer than high. Thorax polished; propodeum around lunule, rugose, otherwise uneven to smooth, shiny. Notalix deep and restricted to declivous part of mesonotum. Mesonotal dimple absent. Sternaulix moderately distinct as a linear depression, smooth. Hind femur thick, thrice as long as broad. Hind tibia and tarsus equal in length. Fore wing somewhat longer than body. Stigma wide, only four times longer than wide, issuing radial vein slightly proximally from its middle. Latter reaching tip of wing, rl short to very short, rl 1.6-1.7 times longer than cuqul, r3 1.7-1.8 times longer than r2. C«2 narrowing distally. N. rec. postfurcal, d one-fifth longer than n. rec. Metasoma somewhat longer than thorax, but shorter than head and thorax together. First tergite as long as wide at hind, distinctly broadening posteriorly, i.e. nearly twice to twice wider behind than at base. Pair of converging keels merging into the rather longitudinal rugosity at hind half of first tergite. Tergites 2-8 polished. Ovipositor sheath in lateral view somewhat longer than half hind tibia. Head and thorax black, first tergite black to blackish, otherwise metasoma brownish yellow to rusty brown, tergites 4-8 more or less darkening. Legs brownish yellow, claws dark. Clypeus, labrum and mandible (excepting blackish apex) rusty to brownish yellow, palpi yellow to pale yellow. Scape brownish yellow, flagellum dark greyish brown. Wings subhyaline. Stigma and veins with yellowish to greyish brown pigmentation. çf and host unknown. Localities — Holotype 9+2 9 paratypes: Afganistan, Prov. Nangarhar, Jalalabad, park. 560 m, 8 May 1974, No. 83, leg. L. PAPP. - 1 9 paratype: Afganhistan, Prov. Kabul, Paghman Mts., 7 km SW from Paghman, 2850 m. 15-26 May 1974, No. 131, leg. L. PAPP. Holotype and three paratypes are deposited in the Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest; Hym. Typ. No. 5278 (holotype) and 5279-5281 (paratypes). Structurally the new species, O. mendus sp. n., is resembling O. (O.) peterseni FISCHER, 1964 (Denmark, Austria, Hungary), although it differs in several features from latter as. tabulated below: O. mendus sp. n. 1. Body relatively strong, 2.4-2.5 mm long. 2. rl 1.6-1.7 times longer than cqul. 3. Eye in lateral view anteriorly less rounded, widest at its upper half (Fig. 6). 4. Hind femur thrice longer than broad. O. peterseni Fi. 1. Body relatively less strong, 1.9 mm long. 2. rl 1.3-1.5 times longer than cuqul. 3. Eye in lateral view anteriorly more rounded, widest near to its middle (Fig. 7). 4. Hind femur fore times longer than broad. On the basis of the original description highly similar to O. (O.) quercicola FISCHER, 1966 (Nepal) and I could find only a few and hardly recognizable differences between the two species: O. mendus sp. n. O. quercicola FT. 1. Ovipositor sheath in lateral view as long as first two tergites, or somewhat longer than half of hind tibia. 1. Ovipositor sheath in lateral view as long as first tergite.
