Huggert, L.: Critical notes on the Mongolian species of the genus Idris Först. (Hymenoptera, Scelionidae)

Critical Notes on the Mongolian Species of the Genus Idris Först. (Hymenoptera, Scelionidae)* by L. HUGGERT, Umeâ Abstract — In checking the Mongolian Idris species published by Dr. SZABÓ in 1973 Idris coxalis (KIEFFER) sensu SZABÓ proved to represent 7. psammon SZABÓ and I . flavicornis FÖRSTER; and I. aureonitens SZABÓ is in fact /. semiflavus (KIEFFER). On the basis of the critical revision of the Idris material collected by DR. Z. KASZAB in Mongolia three species are known from this country: Idris flavicornis FÖRST., I. psammon SZABÓ and /. semiflavus (KIEFFER). In 1973 SZABÓ published a paper on some Mongolian proctotrupoids, based on material collected all over Mongolia by DR. Z. KASZAB during six summer expeditions. In that material SZABÓ recognized three species of the genus Idris FÖRSTER viz. /. flavicornis FÖRSTER, /. coxalis (KIEFFER) and I. aureonitens SZABÓ. But, as I have recently finished a revision of the West Palaearctic species of the genus Idris (HUGGERT 1979) based on type studies, it was quite obvious to me that SZABÓ (1973) had more or less incorrectly interpreted his own species. I have now been able to study this Mongolian material and found that : all the micropterous females of I. flavicornis were correctly recognized by him, but two macropterous females and one male were determined as /. coxalis; all the other specimens determined as I. coxalis are in fact /. psammon SZABÓ, 1965, and /. aureonitens is not that species but /. semiflavus (KIEFFER). SZABÓ (1965) also published a study of the European Idris-species where he made a lot of mistakes. Partly, because he recognized or had access to only one of the old types and thus drew wrong conclusions, concerning their identity. Although, e.g. the types of I. ater SZELÉNYI and I. hilaris SZELÉNYI were present in his large material (they were not labelled as types), he had nevertheless determined the holotype of the former as I. coxalis KIEFFER and I. ater SZELÉNYI sensu SZABÓ turned out to be a mixture of five different species. I will not give more examples here, but refer to my revision (HUGGERT 1979) on the matter where the problems are presented in more detail, synonymes, etc. The numbers in parentheses refer to detailed information on the habitat, published by KASZAB (1963-1968). The Mongolian specimens of I. flavicornis are in all respects identical with European specimens, with wings just surpassing the first tergite (petiole) and no differences were noticed. In the material, however, there are two fully winged females. Macropterous females of I. flavicornis seem to be very * Ergebnisse der zoologischen Forschungen von DR. Z.
