P. Komáromy, Zs.: Studies on terrestrial Chlorhormidium (Kütz.) Fott species (Ulotrichales)

Chlorhormidium dissectum (CHOD.) KOM. comb. n. Bas.: Hormidium dissectum CHOD. — S yn.: Sticliococcus dissectus GAY — Hormidium dissectum B. PETERSEN — Hormidium dissectum (GAY) Chod. In the vegetative stage the threads are 8-10 u,m wide and the cells are 5-12 LUTI long. The structure of the cells are characteristic "Hormidium"-like. The cell-wall is somewhat thicker than the other Chlorhormidium species. The resting stage is a thick-walled form, like Hormidium mucosum B. PETERSEN, but the filaments before the resting stage break up to small pieces, so they look like akineta. Reproduction by fragmentation was observed several times in spring and autumn. Disorganization of some cells and filaments always occur in enrichment cultures. Cholorhormidium crenulatum (KÜTZ.) KOM. comb. n. (KÜTZ.) KOM. Bas.: Hormidium crenulatum KÜTZ. —• S y n. : Hormidiopsis crenulata HANSO. — Ulothrix moniliforme BORGE — Ulothrix moniliformis KÜTZ. In the vegetat ive stage the threads are 10-14 p. m wide with normal cell-wall. The bright green cells are very short: (i-12 u.m. The edge of the parietally lying ehloroplasts are smooth or toothed. There is a distinct pyrenoid surrounded by granules of starch lying in the chloroplast. We can see characteristic vacuoles at the septa, with moving granules. These vacuoles are different in size depending on the physiological state of the cells. In the resting stage the vertical cell-walls of the filaments are thick, some cells are destroyed others survive. When the weather is Table 3.
