Nagy, I. Z.: Lower Cretaceous Cephalopods from the Mts. Bakony, Hungary

Examined material: Fragments of 22 specimens. Localities: Bakonynána, B; Pénzeskút, K v K 2 ; Olaszfalu, V; Nagyesztergál, W. Description: Whorl cross section rounded, one whorl with 23—25 ribs. Ribs with moderately expressed 3 nodes. Rather small exemplars. Remarks : The specimens resembling bergeri can be well separated from it by the difference in the lobe lines and the nodal series. The variability of the nodes is extensive also here. There are no specimens with an aperture or apex in the material. Occurrence: England (aequatorialis and stauderi zones); France (Lower Vraconnian); Switzerland (Lower Vraconnian); Texas. Mariella (M.) sp. indet. Nine fragmentary stone molds from the following localities: Pénzeskút, K 2 ; Bakonynána, P, B, E;. Tés, M; Owing to their strongly abraded state, no details can be established. Fam.: Scaphitidae MEEK, 1876. Genus: Scaphites PARKINSON, 1811. Subgenus: Scaphites PARKINSON, 1811. Scaphites (Scaphites) hugardianus D'OEBK:>.A: (Plate II, Figs. 7, 8) 1840. Scaphites Hugardianus D'ORBIGNY, p. 521, 525. Examined material: Partly shelled fragments of 32 specimens. Localities: Bakonynána, P, G; Pénzeskút, K x ; Olaszfalu, V; Jásd, Z. Description: Medium or rather small specimens, D = 20 —26. Umbilicus closed or slightly open. The (uncinately) curved living chamber slightly expanding, its ventral margin with 4—6 tubercles, apertural margin not thickening. Remarks: The specimens rather agree as to size. Most of the fragments are broken off living chambers. The tubercles appear exclusively on the ventral margin of the living chamber, on both sides. The cross ribbing is independent of the tubercles, without any sculptural connection in their formation and decurrence. Bifurcations can be observed also among the tubercles. 4'hey emit a threefold branching of the ribs across the ventral margin; from here, a rib is decurrent also towards the umbilicus. The ribs are uniform over the entire shell. On the spiral portion, some emarginations of the ventral rim could also be observed in one or two cases, but these are not tubercular in character. The living chamber widens and also flattens in the whorl, its recurving aperture is very near to the spire. The widening and thickening of the aperture is very conspicuous. The suturai lines also correspond to the features characteristic of the species (WIEDMANN, 1965, p. 425, figs, d, e). It should be noted, however, that the sutures of the specimens from the Mts. Bakony are slightly more elongated, resembling the habit of Sc. (Sc.) collignoni WIEDMANN. The lobe L is rather asymmetric, agreeing with the form shown in Fig. "e", characterized by many elongated elements.
