Nagy, I. Z.: Lower Cretaceous Cephalopods from the Mts. Bakony, Hungary

Examined material: 23 fragments, largely stone molds. Localities: Bakonynána, B; Olaszfalu, V; Pénzeskút, K x , K 2 . Description: Shells apically subtending 15—20°. Whorl cross section rather wider than high. Cross section with deeply impressed upper side. Ribbing medium robust, densely arranged (20—24 per whorl). Lobe L symmetric, divided. Remarks: The specimens are of rather small dimensions. Average whorl altitude 8 mm. Ribs proclinate. Neither aperture nor apex known. Occurrence: England (Cambridge, Greensand); France (Lower Vraconnian); Switzerland (Vraconnian). Turrilitoides (T.) hugardianus aff. crassieostatus SPATH Remarks: Fragments of 4 shells; Bakonynána, R. The deviation of the specimens agreeing with the species consists in their more robust ribbing. Occurrence: England (substauderi zone); France (Lower Vraconnian); Switzerland (Lower Vraconnian). Turrilitoides (T.) sp. indet. Fragments of 7 shells; Bakonynána, B. Stone molds; owing to the bad state of preservation, no other details can be given. Genus: Ostlingoceras HYATT, 1900. Subgenus: Ostlingoceras HYATT, 1900. Ostlingoceras (0.) puzosianum (D'ORBIGNY) (Plate III, Fig. 2) 1842. Turrilites puzosianus D'ORBIGNY, p. 587, fig. 1—2. 1937. Ostlingoceras puzosianum (D'ORB.) —SPATH, p. 523, pi. 58, figs. 38—40; text fig. 183a—c. 1968. Ostlingoceras (O.) puzosianum (D'ORB.) —RENZ, p. 92, pi. 18, figs. 12a —b, 13, 14, 15a-b. Examined material: Fragments of 27 specimens, mostly stone molds. Localities: Pénzeskút K l5 K 2 ; Bakonynána, B, P; Bakonybél, Jásd, Z; Olaszfalu, V. Description: Dextrorsely coiled shells with closely appressed whorls. Number of ribs decurrent from apex to aperture 26—30 per whorl. Ribs dissolving in a node at lower quarter whorl, then again continuing in one or two further nodes. Remarks: The whorls are of various shape, but longitudinally slightly elongate, characteristic of the genus. The ribs are straight, slightly proclinate, towards tuberculated part of whorls. Bifurcations are also known, though a rare occurrence (e.g. on specimen M. 63.1866); I do not consider it a taxonomic feature. No apertures could be observed; the apices are also missing. The longest fragment has 4 whorls. The interstice between the first and second tubercles deepens into a characteristic sulcus. The suturai lines are characteristic of the species. Ostliiujoccras sp. indet. Remarks: Fragments of about 7 specimens, originating from Pénzeskút, T, É, Kj and Lókút. The characteristic rib system of Ostlingoceras is still discernible, but no further details can be established.
