Microplitis variipes Ruthe 1. Specimens collected in the Carpathian Basin vary in the following characteristics : a. A sporadic punctuation around parapsidal traces, resembling that of M. tuberculifera Wesm.; />. Centre of scutellum may be either hardly punctate and wholly shiny or densely and conspicuously punctate ; c. Lateral or median ridge of metanotum wanting ; d. Plate of tergite 1. twice longer than broad, but eventually also almost square ; e. Palpi nigrescent ; /. First 3—4 joints of antenna reddish yellow ; g. Venation darkening ; h. Tegula yellow, stigma unicolorous yellowish brown ; i. Reddish yellow color of legs suppresses black of femur and tibia. 2. Szépligeti (1896 : 180) and Győrfi (1941 : 92) list M. vidua Ruthe from various parts of the Carpathian Basin. According to Fahringer (1937 : 304), it differs from M. variipes by the unicolorous stigma and the coloration of the legs. One may find yet two differences in the description of the species following Ruthe; namely the dense punctuation of the head and the scutellum. These four differences can be only gradual, as shown also by the variability of the species. In all likelihood, M. vidua Ruthe is the synonym of M. variipes Ruthe. Microplitis sordipes Nees 1. The following characteristics vary on specimens collected in the Carpathian Basin : a. Clypeus almost wholly smooth and shiny; b. Plate of tergite 1. narrowing, similarly to M. variipes Ruthe; c. Coxae and trochanter 1. russetcolored ; d. Femora darken in various degrees ; d. Underside of antennái joints 1—3 (4) reddish yellow, alternatively ; /. Light spot on base of stigma. 2. Szépligeti (1898 : 385 and 398—399) differentiates his new species described by the name M. scrophulariae, as follows : ,,Nearest to M. sorpides Nees, differring by its black tegulae, reddish yellow costal and median veins, further by its bicolorous stigma". One can, however, select series of the specimens preserved in the Collection of the Natural History Museum, which will connect the two species not only by their coloration as given by Szépligeti but also with regard to other features. Therefore , I regard M. scrophulariae Szépl. as a synonym of M. sordipes Nees. Microplitis spinolae Nees 1. The following characteristics vary on specimens collected in the Carpathian Basin : a. Tergite 2. hardly rugose ; b. First joint of antennae reddening ; c. First two coxae turning yellow ; d. Tarsus 3. wholly darkening, except base of first joint (resembling M. fumipennis Ratz.) ; e. Yellow color of sternites extending over their halfth, with all tarsi vivid rufous yellow. 2. S z é p 1 i g e t i (1896 : 179 and 307, 1899 : 100) and Győrfi (1941 : 92) list numerous Hungarian localities of M. fumipennis Ratz., and M. xanthopus Ruthe. According to Hellen (1954: 111 —112) and Telenga (1955 : 157—159, and 154—156), these differ from M. spinolae by the smoothness and punctation, and the presence or absence of the white spot of the stigma.
