Telenga states, that "the color of the sternites separates it well from its near allies, namely, M. fumipennis and M. xanthopus" '. And, if we compare the detailed characterization given by Fahringer (1937 : 278—279, 295—296, 304—305) and Telenga (1955 : 154—156), we shall find that the differences of the three species (sculptures of the face, mesonotum, tergites 1., 2., and the coloration of the several body parts) are but gradual. This is why I find it probable that M. fumipennis Ratz., and M. xanthopus Ruthe are synonyms of M. spinolae Nees. Hygroplitis Thoms., 1895. Three species of the genus Hygroplitis Thoms. live in the Palearcticum (Fahringer, 1937:307). All three were collected also in the Carpathian Basin. Key to species of Hygroplitis O 9 and cfcf 1 (2) Femur 3. roughly and densely scrobiculate. Scutellum roughly scrobiculate, never shiny centrally. Body black. Legs red or rufous yellow from trochanter on, darkening eventually. Length : 4—5 mm. — Range : Europe. Frequent in the Pannonicum in the Carpathian Basin 1. H. abdominalis Nees, 1834. 2 (1) Femur 3. finely punctate. Scutellum sporadically punctate, eventually smooth and shiny centrally. 3 (4) Abdominal segments 1—3. reddish yellow and honeycomb-like rugose. Scutellum punctate only along margins ; almost wholly smooth and shiny centrally. Tarsus 3. darkening, femur 3. reddish yellow. Length : 5—7 mm. — Range : Europe. Rare in the Carpathian Basin 2. H. russata Hal., 1834. 4 (3) Abdominal segments 1—3. black, densely rugoso-scrobiculate. Scutellum finely and densely punctate along margins, with oblique, sporadical and fine wrinkles centrally ; shiny. Tarsus 3. always yellow ; femur 3. black. Length : 4,5 mm. — Range : Europe, not collected in the Soviet Union ; two specimens found in the Carpathian Basin 3. H. rugulosa Nees, 1834.
