Papp, J.: The Microgaster Latr., Microplitis Först., and Hygroplitis Thoms. species of the Carpathian Basin (Hymenoptera, Braconidae)

Critical remarks on some Microplitis species Microplitis mediator Hal. 1. The following characters vary on specimens collected in the Carpathian Basin : a. Quadrangular cubitus 2. almost triangular ; b. Median (eventually lateral) ridges of metanotum wanting ; c. Tergite 1. only one and a half times longer than broad ; d. Tergite 1. rugose in various extense ; e. Antenna darken in various extense ; /. If plate of tergite 1. darkens, next two tergites also darken. 2. Győrfi (1941 : 92) lists Af. mandibularis Thoms., from around Sopron. H e 11 én (1954 : 113) remarks that "Die Beschreibung Fahringe r's von mediator Hal. scheint mit mandubilaris Thoms. gut übereinzustimmen". Telenga (1955 : 158) lists it among the species of incertain description and dubious relegation. From my part, I regard the species, supported by the views of the above two authors, as a synonym of M. mediator Hal. Microplitis tuberculifera Wesm. 1. Szépligeti (1896:181 and 307) lists several collecting localities of M. mediana Ruthe. In his world catalogue, however, he gives (1904: 114) only "Britannia, Germania". Hellén (1954 : 113) remarks that "Das Weibchen steht tuberculiferus Wesm. sehr nahe". Fahringer (1937 : 283) takes a similar standpoint. Telenga (1955 : 172) appeare to find the main differences in the two following features : antenna rufous brown, plate of tergite 1. narrows distally. Both features are characteristical also for M. tuberculifera Wesm. 2. Győrfi (1942:92, 1945:192) mentions numerous collecting localities of M. pseudomediana Marsh. Hellén (1954 :113) question-marks its synonymity between M. mediana Ruthe and M. pesudodemianus Fahr. (Marsh.) 3. Szépligeti (1899 : 100) has M. strenua Reinh. from two localities, but gives only „Germania" in his world catalogue (1904 : 115). Fahringer (1937 : 297) considers its specific criterion in the shape of tergite 1. I established that the ratio of its length and breadth fluctuates between 1,5 : 1 and 1,8 : 1 on the one hand, and that these proportions prevail in the case of M. tuberculifera Wesm. on the other. 4. Győrfi (1941 : 92) collected M. eremita Reinh. in Sopron. Given the original descriptions, there seems to be but a slight difference between M. tubercutifera Wesm. and the above species. 5. Győrfi (1953:302) shew M. semicircularis Ratz., and M.stigmatica Ratz., from Bátorliget. Our authors (Fahringer, 1937 : 292, Hellen, 1954 : 114) consider these two species as much resembling M. tuberculifera Wesm. Telenga (1955 : 148) relegates it among the species of a doubtful taxonomy. 6. From my part, I hold the species enumerated above, and this on the basis of literature data and my investigations, to be synonyms of M. tuberculifera Wesm. Nor is it impossible that, given an opportunity to examine the type specimens and to study habits, they will be found to exist as distinct species.
