5 (4) Tergites, with exception of margin of tergite 1., black. Antenna, coxa, trochanter 1. black, legs otherwise yellow. Tergite 1. 1,8 times longer than broad (fig. 10.). Length : 3—4 mm. — Range : Europe, the Soviet Union, Japan. To be found everywhere in the Carpathian Basin, but is nowhere frequent 3. M. tuberculifera Wesm., 1837. 6 (1) Plate of tergite 1. broad, 1,5 times longer than its median breadth (fig. 12.). 7 (14) Tergite 2. wholly smooth, except for oblique, lined sculpture. 8 (11) Scutellum smooth and shiny (fig. 17.). If not so, tergite 1. square. 9 (10) Plate of tergite 1. 1,5 times longer than broad medially. Length : 3—4 mm. — Range : Europe, excepting northern areas. In the Carpathian Basin, most frequent in the Central Range. Infrequent 4. M. tristis Nees, 1834. 10 (9) Plate of tergite 1. square ; not or hardly longer than broad. Length : 3 — 4 mm. — Range : Palearcticum. Rare in the Carpathian Basin : never collected since end of last century 5. M. ocellatae Bouché, 1834. 11 (8) Scutellum not smooth nor shiny, generally punctate. 12 (13) Body, as related to M. sordipes, slender. Trochanter 2. and base of femur red or yellowish red. Legs obscure in varying degrees, only seldom rufous. Plate of tergite 1. generally narrow, elliptical. Antenna of female thin : 0,2 mm. Length : 3 mm. — Range : Germany, the Soviet Union. Collected in several localities of the Carpathian Basin 6. M. variipes Ruthe, 1860. 13 (12) Body, as ralated to M. variipes, squat. Trochanter 2., and base of femur black. Legs rufous yellow from femur on. Plate of tergite 1. generally trapezoid, its distal base being almost as broad as its length (fig. 12.). Antenna of female thick : 0,3 mm. Length : 3,5 — 5 mm. — Range : Germany, Switzerland, Austria, the Soviet Union. Collected in several localities of the Carpathian Basin 7. M. sordipes Nees, 1834. 14 (7) Tergite 2. ruguloso-punctate, or punctate or rugose only. 15 (16) Tergites black. Length : 3,5—4,5 mm. — Range : Europe, Siberia, Japan. Frequent in the Pannonicum 8. M. spinolae Nees, 1834. 16 (15) At least abdomen red or reddish yellow. 17 (18) Thorax red or reddish yellow. Mesonotum a bit shiny around parapsidal furrow. Length : 3 mm. — Range : European area of the Soviet Union. Collected in the Pannonicum only of the Carpathian Basin ; rare 9. M. ochracea Szépl., 1896. 18 (17) Thorax black. Mesonotum not or scarcely shiny around parapsidal furrow. Length : 4 mm. — Range : European area of the Soviet Union. Three specimens collected in Hungary ; new for the fauna of the Carpathian Basin 10. M. murina Tel., 1955.
