Babos, M.: Notes on the occurrence in Hungary of Lactarius species with regard to their range in Europe
Alnus, is cited in literature as frequent on the soil substratum of the mixed woods around Budapest, the mycorrhizal tree species of this mushroom are almost wholly missing from this area. It is also very striking that the common L. quietus is not listed in these very same papers. Since we do not dispose of herbarium specimens to support the above data, the occurrence of L. glyciosmus in Hungary must be regarded as doubtful. Lactarius mammosus Fr. Not rare in Central Europe (Neuhoff), but very rare in Hungary. We have only a single datum ; it grew on the bare soil under Picea pungens var. glauca planted in Telkibánya, in the Mts. Zemplén, on 26 Oct. 1958. It is well distinct from every other Lactarius species by its mouse greybrownish grey cap resembling that of Tricholoma terreum, at first innate pubescent (felt-like), shredding presently to squamose fibrils. Herb. : under Picea pungens var. glauca, Telkibánya, Mts. Zemplén, 26 Oct. 1958, leg. Bohus & Babos. Lactarius infus Scop, ex Fr. A species ranging over Europe, being one of the most common species in the area examined by N e u h o f f . In Hungary, it is frequent only with reference to coniferous woods, but it was generally not observed in masses even in its staple habitats. Herb. : in the Mts. Buda : in pineto culto, Vadaskert, 4 Nov. 1938, leg. R. Bohus; in pineto culto, Mt. Csúcshegy, 24 Sept., 15 Oct. 1955, leg. Bohus & Babos; in the Mts. Mátra : in pineto culto, the Ilona valley, 6 Oct. 1956, leg. Kalmár; Galyatető, 15 August 1944, leg. Kalmár. — Lit. : in the Sötét valley, Szekszárd, Com. Tolna, Hollós (1926, 1933) ; around Kőszeg (Chernél, Visnya, Piers) Visnya (1928—29) ; around Budapest and in the Mts. Buda, R. Bohus, Szemere, Istvánffi) Moesz (1942), Szemére (1926); Tornaszentjakab, Com. BorsodAbaúj-Zemplén, Kalmár (1945). Lactarius mitissimus Fr. A rather far-ranging species in Hungary, even though it is infrequent. In this respect, it conforms more or less with the findings concerning its other European habitats (N e u h o f f). With regard to its habitats, it occurs mostly in deciduous forests in Hungary. Herb. : in piceeto, around the Fáber-meadow, Sopron, 20 Oct. 1952, leg. Bohus; in querceto, Pamuk, Com. Somogy, 10 Nov. 1948, leg. Bohus & Szemére; in the Fáni valley, Mts. Vértes, 8 Oct. 1955, leg. B a k s a y & Szujkó; in silva mixta, Mt. Csúcshegy, Mts. Buda, 15 Oct. 1955, 27 Nov. 1958, leg. Bohus & Babos; in querceto, near Tahi, Mts. Pilis, 16 August 1955, leg. Bohus & Babos; in silva frondosa, near Tamáskút, Mts. Bükk, 8 Oct. 1955, leg. Bohus & Babos; in pineto mixto,
