Lactarius subdulcis Bull, ex Fr. This species of a European range is very frequent in Hungary. Oftenly, it appears in large masses in some areas. According to Neuhoff, it is bound to beeches. In Hungary, as is to be seen from the data of the mycocoenological surveys, it can be found primarily in the several types of the association Luzulo-Quercetum on an acidic substrate, then in beechwoods and in hornbeamoakwoods, but it was collected in poplar and birch groves too. Herb. : 25 data. Lit. : Bohus (1952) ; K o n e c s n i (1952—53) ; Moesz (1930, 1942) ; Szemére (1926) ; U b r i z s y (1940, 1941, 1954—56). There appeared a copious amount of this species in the planted coniferous woods on a limestone substrate on the Mt. Csúcshegy in the Mts. Buda, found up to date only in the Alps and in its foothills (and a dubious occurrence in Denmark). For the sake of control, it seems expedient to describe its essential features as established on the basis of the collected material : colors wholly agree with those given on Plate 56 (sub nom. L. hepaticus) of Boudier (1904—1910) ; cap blackish reddish brown, purple reddish brown, reddish brown, frequently
