four in the Eastern Mecsek (Mátépart), 25. Febr. ; eight in the same place, 7. April, and two on the southern side of the Jakabhegy, 9. April. 3. Parus m. maior L. Grey Tit. — One of the most common birds of the Mecsek, nesting in the whole complex ; the nest boxes are also tenanted by this bird with only a meagre excep­tion of the cases. Data of occurrences : five specimens on the southern side of the Misina, 16. October, 1943 ; fifteen-twenty in the same place, 19. Oct. ; the same numbers again here, 23. Oct. ; about thirty specimens on the Jakabhegy, 5. December ; they were to be seen and heard here everywhere, 9. January, 1944, and I have seen about forty or fifty specimens ; ten birds between Zobák and Pusztaszentlászló, Eastern Mecsek, 25. March ; one on the southern slope of the Misina, 17. January, 1946 ; one at the Kisrét, 19. Jan. ; and one again here, 22. Jan. ; then one only on the southern side of the Misina, 25. Jan. ; three during the whole day on the northern side of the Pécsi Mecsek, 2. February^ one at the Dömörkapu (southern side of the Pécsi Mecsek), 4. Febr. ; one again here, 5. Febr. ; two at the Mandulás, 7. Febr. ; nine on the southern side of the Misina, 11. Febr. ; eight around the Dömörkapu, 16. Febr. ; twelve on the southern side of the Misina, 20. Febr. ; ten or fifteen on the northern and southern part of the Pécsi Mecsek, 3. March ; about thirty specimens around Abaliget on the northern side of the Western Mecsek, 10. March ; six on the southern side of the Eastern Mecsek (Zengővár), 17. March ; five on the southeastern side of the Western Mecsek, 20. March ; eleven on the southern side of the Misina, 21. March ; twenty or twenty five specimens in the hills between Pécs and Óbánya, 23. March ; about thirty on the northern side of the Eastern Mecsek, 24. March ; forty-fifty alongside the road leading from Óbánya to Pécs (between Zobák and Komló), 25. March ; nine (relatively few specimens) at the southern foot of the Jakabhegy, 28 March ; sixteen in the Middle Mecsek, 7. April ; nine on the southern side of the Jakabhegy, 9. April. The Grey Tit is, besides the Chaf­finch and the Yellow Bunting, the most common bird of the Mecsek. 4. Parus c. caeruleus L. Blue Tit. — Much rarer than the Grey Tit. It is willing to settle in nest boxes. I ,have found it nesting three times, but always in nest boxes deep in the forest. Data of occurrence : three specimens at the Lapis refuge, 16. October ; one in the same place, 19. Oct. ; one on the southern side of the Misina, 23. Oct. ; three on the Jakabhegy, 5. December ; four on the southern side of the Misina, 3. January, 1946 ; one at the Dömörkapu, 4. February ; two in the same place, 11. Febr. ; two both on the southern side of the Misina, 16. Febr. ; one in the same place, 20. Febr. ; one at the foot of the Jakabhegy, 20. March ; one again in the same place, 9. April. 5. Parus a. ater L. Coal Tit. —• I have observed one specimen on the southern slope of the Misina, on high pine trees. I have further seen one specimen in a big Tit flock also on pine trees at the Dömörkapu, 4. February, 1944 ; and there was another one on a pine at the southwestern foot of the Misina, 19. March, 1946. 6. Parus palustris communis Baldenst. Marsh Tit. — I have found it nesting in natural circumstances only once : near Kantavár, the beginning of May, 1948. There were already young birds in his nest behind the peeling bark of a tree. There was another pair nesting also in a nest box. Data of observations : one specimen on the southern side of the Misina, 3. January, 1946 ; two on the southern part of the Jakabhegy, 20. Jan. : one on the southern edge of the woods on the Misina, 6. February ; two single specimens at the Mandulás, 7. Febr. ; one near the Misina peak, 11. Febr. ; one around the Dömörkapu, 16. Febr. ; one pair near the Lapis refuge, 21. March ; one pair near Zobák, and another near Püspökszentlászló, 23. March ; three pairs on the northern side of the Eastern Mecsek, 24. March ; one pair both at Zobák and at Komló, 25. March ; one pair near Cserkút, 28. March ; and one pair both near Hosszúhetény, and Pécs­budafa, 7. April. 7. Muscicapa a. albicçllis Temm. Collared Flycatcher. — I have observed, led by C s e r e s­ny és, one male specimen near Kantavár, 4. July, 1950 ; and Cseresnyés found them nesting in some pairs in this part of the woods. 8. Phoenicurus ph. phoenicurus L. Redstart. — I found a fresh clutch of seven eggs in the Lámpás valley of the Pécsi Mecsek, 28. April, 1946 ; and another fresh clutch of seven eggs around Kantavár, 4. May, 1947. I discovered two clutches of six also around Kantavár, 3. May, 1948 ; and two clutches of six, in the same place, 30. May, 1947. I have only rarely found it in other parts of the Mecsek. 9. Picus v. viridis L. Green Woodpecker. —I two saw specimens at the edge of the wood on the southern side of the Jakabhegy, 5. December, 1943 ; and observed one only in the same place, 20. March. There was some further specimens on the Nagyhegy, Eastern Mecsek, 24. March. Apart from the latter datum, it was seen only on the borders of the Mountains, in the outskirts of the woods. It is not frequent, and I have not found its nesting. 10. Dryobates maior pinetorum Brehm. Great Spotted Woodpecker. — A generally dis­tributed and frequent bird of the Mecsek. Data of observations : two specimens on the southern side of the Misina, 16. October, 1943 ; five in the same place, 23. Oct. ; one on the Jakabhegy, 5. December ; five again here, 9. January, 1944 ; one at Püspökszentlászló, 25. March ; one on
