Soós, L. ; Schlesch, H.: Notes on some Arctic Mollusca from Greenland
MOLLEE has collected a great nuinber of living specimens of this species and preserved thetn in alcohol. Based upon tlie dissection of several of them we may give tlie following description of its reproductive organs (fig. 1 A—C). Of the hermaphrodite gland nothing can be said since it was impossible to separate it from the liver, preserved but very imperfectlv. Tlie hermaphrodite duct is nearly straight, Tlie albumen glaud is an irregular tuberiform organ composed of several Jarge lobes and lving Iransversaily to the longitudinal axis of the whole genital apparatus. The spermoviduct forins similarly an irregular saeculated and folded mass composed of tissues swelling exceedingly in water and becoming verv Jiard and fragile in strong alcohol; its male and female parts may be distinguished but in its anterior part in the vicinity of the origin of the vas deferens; the translueent, folded, thin walled prostatic part differing also in its colour from the more compact, brown coioured uterine part; what SIMROTH (I. e. p. 13) calls acini of the prostata are nothing else than folds of the uterus. The free oviduct is very short, and vagina is not to be distinguished at all since the spermatheca duct opens into the atrium, between the oviduct and tlie penis, but somewhat dorsally. The speririatheea is oval in shape, sitting at the end of a cylindrical stem. J)ecoming thicker towards its inosculation and inflated semiglobularly immediately ljehind this point (lig. 1, C); the Jenght and thickness of the steni is somewJiat variable as shown otffigs. 1, -I. and The penis sheath is, in general, a long cylindrical tube, hecoming somewhal slenderer towards its distal end ; its length is also variable, ns shown on the ligs. 1, A—C, The very tJiin filiform vas deferens enters thc penis at Uie end, and then runs along it to which it is attached but very loose. In immediate vicinily of the entering of the vas deferens is attached the penis retractor muscle. The atrium is very long. The retractor muscle of the right oinmatophore is lying beside the penis close to the buccal mass and oesophagus. So much are the facts. As far as we are able to establish. upon the basis of the different figures and descriptions Aiatales ilusei Xatiottalis Hnnyariei.
