ÉCOLE NATION AIE SUPERIEURE DES BEAUX-ARTS sises the influence of Floris, can be positively adjusted based on the early drawings of Floris that have been published since then. Most of the pieces in Floris' small drawing oeuvre come from the Italian sketch-book (Basel, Öffentliche Kunstsammlung) of drawings the artist made when young, betw r een 1541 and 1545, during his years in Italy, especially in Rome, based on antique sculptures and Italian paintings. 9 The closest stylistic analogy 7 of the Budapest Apollo and the Muses can be found on one of the sheets containing copies of Italian compositions and preserved in Paris (Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts) (fig. 3). 10 The so-called boat scene with a vaguely defined theme shows the fragment of a ceiling fresco (Mantova, Palazzo Ducale, Camerino dei Falconi) designed by Giulio Romano and executed by one of his associates.
