However, it is the boat scene that is of interest to us due to its pen-and-ink sketch style matching that of the Budapest work in regard to the general impression and the depiction of the details. On both sheets the figures drawn with continuous thin lines appear from out of a hatched background. With one exception the Parisian sheet shows only men, who Floris drew with the same kind of hollow eyes, similar noses and unelaborated hands as the figures in the Budapest drawing. When comparing the two works, it must be taken into account that the Parisian one is a copy after an Italian model, where the type and style of the model exerted some influence, but the Budapest drawing is an independent work. However, the works have a shared feature: the empty spaces between the figures are filled in with a dense hatching of short parallel lines, thus enhancing the "horror vacui" effect in the crowded composition.
