THE YEAR 2003 - NEW ACQUISITIONS

Standing newly acquired pieces include Domenicus Custos's 12 engravings of monarchs, George Morland's etching "Landscape with Figures", a coloured lithograph by Pierre Alechinsky, Antonio Tápies' etching entitled "Sénanque", and the abovementioned album by Giuseppe Vasi. Three new works entered the inventory of the Department of Modern Art: Beumen's Collage I-III, the painting Madonna with the Sleeping Christ Child and the Infant Saint John the Baptist by Joseph Noel Paton, and Judy Cassab's composition of the Striving for the Light. The Old Sculpture Collection acquired one work, the Caritas Romana by an 18

th-century Italian master. The holdings of the Library increased with 3685 volumes (2982 new books and 703 periodicals) by way of purchases, donations, international or domestic exchanges of a value amounting altogether to HUF 28,000,000.
