Gyura Sándor: Az Országos Nép- és Családvédelmi Alap házépítési tevékenysége Cegléden

Sándor Gyura House building activities organised by the national foundation for the protection of people and family in Cegléd The biggest social politic action in the 20 t h century was the house building program for families with many children organised by the National Foundation for the Protection of People and Family (ONCSA) as well as the different productive social allocations offered by this organisation. The name ONCSA became a household name, since many public places in Hungary still carry this name officially or traditionally, even if its meaning is no more obvious today. 1058 standard houses had been built in the towns and villages of the Pest-Pilis-Solt-Kiskun county as part of the program which included the whole country and the re-annexed territories. The Town Welfare Co-operative of Cegléd let build 41 family houses in the settlements of Cegléd, which I have studied. These houses were built following the varieties of ONCSA's standard design village houses with bed-recess. Each settlement was built on the outskirts, but two of the streets belong today to the inner town. We can follow up the construction work in newspaper articles and archive documents. Most of the houses have been rebuilt by now, some have been demolished. The most strikingwell visible from outside - transformation was the bricking up of the porches and the change of windows and doors. Inside the house the walls separating the bed-recesses in one half of the room have been removed. I examined in detail one house built in 1941 and one built in 1943 with the families living in them. I follow the structural and interior changes caused by the modernisation and the transformation of lifestyle through the history 7 of their lives. These two ONCSA houses preserved the best the characteristics of the original standard houses. The main building has been modified here too, but to a lesser extent. The space between the main building and the farm building left for extension by the architects has been built over and the yard and the garden were shaped according to the family's needs. 86
