Legeza Borbála: Olaj és Tsz a faluban – Szocialista megélhetési stratégiák Magyarország két sarkában

Borbála Legeza Means of subsistence in two corners of the socialist hungary I present the life and the transformation of two villages, Ebes and Gellénháza during the time of socialism. Both villages had each such an institution, which contributed a lot to the life and development of the community. This was the agricultural cooperative in Ebes, which used to function well. Almost every inhabitant had been working there or in the state's farm, which constituted a good working opportunity too. Oil production started in Gellénháza in the fifties and soon the dusty little village developed into a small town with a higher living standard. At least one person from every family was employed by the oil company. After the change of regime, both started to decline. Therefore today's pensioners look back at the change of regime as the end of the "golden age". We find however in both villages some persons who did not belong to any of these institutions and they see the processes differently, with the view of an outsider. It is absolutely necessary to know their point as well to be able to carry out a comprehensive study. Although the two villages are far away from each other and the two institutions provided completely different job opportunities, we can observe quite a number of similarities in their development during the years after the fifties in socialist Hungary. 226
