SZABÓ LÁSZLÓ: Visszaemlékezés a Népi Építészeti Tudományos Diákkör történetére

László Szabó HOAM - FASSC Hungarian Open Air Museum Folk Architecture Scientific Student Club On the 29 t h of March 201 I during a discussion with the Director General dr. Miklós Cseri, the question came up: "What can be interesting" for the Hungarian Open Air Museum (HOAM) in the work and 25 years of experience of Folk Architecture Scientific Student Club (FASSC) which was working in the predecessor of Ybl Miklós Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering (YMFACE) of Szent István University (SZIU), called Ybl Miklós College of Technology (YMCT)? In 1996 in Szentendre the students of FASSC, the "professional sponges with sparkling eyes" built laden mudwall, and there I could see that besides theoretical knowledge, how important field-work is, the acquaintance with authentic, folk building, and this way the students' basic knowledge could be well established. For this purpose a good cooperating relationship between YMFACE and HOAM would be a great opportunity. This connection - hopefully - could be made now, because in 2008 YMFACE gave the whole measurement, research and material of 25 years of FASSC, which contained ethnologic research results of fieldwork to HOAM. The FASSC researched and measured more than 600 buildings, buildups and homes in the Carpathian basin. Unfortunately only a few of the buildings can still be found today; so the handed over material could become more and more valuable for HOAM as well, from which they can use a lot in their future assignments. There are several possibilities for cooperation between HOAM and YMFACE which could be beneficial for both parties. From these cooperation opportunities I would like to emphasize the lectures (with invited lecturers from HOAM and YMFACE as well, and also from other areas of the profession), or the empirical presentations that could support theoretical knowledge; though I think the active participation of students in different kinds of museum work also belongs here. In some cases common aims can turn up, like to make the youth realize how important it is to utilize and save folk architecture and ethnography - that is considering the possibilities and capabilities and also the needs of present-days - and also to endear these professions, because this is the only chance to take over progressive traditions, besides the innovations. The connection between HOAM, YMFACE and also FASSC can also have high priority, but not of exclusive importance, as a means of museum pedagogy - helping to address the visitors (in this way the kindling of the attendees' interest can have a positive effect on the number of visitors of HOAM, too. ..) It is my belief that folk architecture must get acquainted, so that we will know our way between the lines of modern architectural theories and styles, and we will be able to plan a modern house, or home which reflects the culture of folk architecture. The cooperation between HOAM and FASSC has finally started and the exhibition: ROOTS AND BRANCHES („GYÖKEREK ÉS ÁGAK") is in the making. Now we could not write about cooperation if the HOAM had not undertaken to store and digitalize the whole archive of FASSC. Here I would like to express my thanks to Director General dr. Miklós Cseri and Scientific Director Dr. Lajos Kemecsi and the whole staff of the Museum, who were very helpful. 241
