9. The letter of Prof. Dr. Erna Lesky, Director of the Medical Historical Institute in Vienna to Prof. Dr. Zoltán Imre, Rector of the Medical Faculty of the University of Budapest Vienna, 11th January 1970. His Magnificence, Many thanks for your letter from 11. 12. 1969 which—owing to delay of the Christmas post—I received only to-day. I am very pleased that the anniversary present handed over by Magnificence Zerbst is welcomed and as I have just learned from Dr. Antall, it is going to be reviews in the "Communicationes". Indeed, I myself assume the responsibility for it. I am sorry all the more that I cannot give you anything but an advice in connection with the Semmelweis documents you have asked recently. I only ask Your Magnificence to consider my good-will beyond all question. Since Doz. Dr. Jantsch parted from the Institute for the Medical History, I have no influence on her whatsoever. As regards law, things are as follows: in connection with medical documents from hospitals, the power of disposal is attributed entirely to town concerned, consequently any rectorate or decanate cannot exercise influence in this question. After our conversation with Your Magnificence in November 1969 I am convinced that the documents cannot be found in original any more. It is my personal view that it would be the Town Vienna alone which could empower Doz. Dr. Jantsch to place the copies which she must have aquired at that time, at the disposal of another official place. I think that measures promising should be taken directly at the Vienna as superior authority of the hospital in question. I ensure Your Magnificence that I would be most pleased if I could assist you more than this establishment of the objective facts, I am yours most truly Erna Lesky
