st century This essay aims at showing the contemporary praxis of garbage handling in Gyimesközéplok. Special attention will be paid to the changes after the change of regime. The study is based on field-works made in the village between 2002 and 2006. The investigation focused on how elements of the traditional local culture and the Western consumer civilization were combined. The result was a way of life that followed the pattern of the "Western culture", constructing thereby rather very local variations. This is the way of introducing new artefact populations into their everyday life, but also the mode of their elimination at the end. At that moment some old, well-tried and traditional methods had been activated.
