II. INTRODUCTION TO THE CATALOGUE
a. number b. coin type c. date d. mint e. identification f. mint marks; in the first column the mjnt mark from the segment, in the second column the mint mark from the field. Identifying we tried to use the latest literature, but this was not always possible. With coins, where only a description was available, or only Cohen's identification was found in the literature, or in the inventories, and the coin could not have been taken into hand personally, mainly coins from the end of the 3rd and beginning of the 4th centuries only Cohen's identifications were given. In the olden days the description of the mint mark was forgotten or were not found important. To date these coins was impossible, we could only note the beginning and the end of the reign of the emperor. With these coins we left the identification according to the first edition of Cohen even. There were difficulties eith the identification of coin types for coins of the 3rd and 4th centuries. In most cases the follis and the half-follis were undiscernible, thus we used the name follis until the reform of the middle of the 4th century A.D. a. the serial number provides the number of items within a group. b. abbreviations of coin types: AE coins struck of copper, bronze, or orichaicum where closer type identification was impossible AEAn bronze antoninianus , used only for antoniniani struck before 26o A.D.
