BÍRÓ-SEY KATALIN: COINS FROM IDENTIFIED SITES OF BRIGETIO AND THE QUESTION OF LOCAL CURRENCY / Régészeti Füzetek II/18. (Magyar Nemzeti Múzeum Budapest, 1977)

II. INTRODUCTION TO THE CATALOGUE

c. dating Mainly the chronology of RIC was used, or rather accepted. Since the publications of the different volumes of RIC, several modifications took place, especially in dating the coinage of the end of the 3rd century A.D. The chronology of the Siscian coins of the times of Valentinian were refined. These modifications were considered in the evaluation of hoards, but in putting the catalogue together we stricly adhered to the chronologies of RIC or LRBC. With the coins of Viminacium we coupled Pick's identification with Elmer's chronology (Die Münzpregung von Viminacium und die Zeitrechnung der Provinz Obermoesien. NZ 68 (1953), 33-43). For coins which could not be identified by the literature above, the dates given represent the beginning and the end of the emperor's reign. The same was applied to coins of empresses and caesars, unless there was some other evidence concerning the date of the striking of the coin. d. mints Mints became numerous from the second half of the 3rd century A.D. Mint marks appear then.
