ANIKÓ GULYÁS-GÖMÖRI: ÓBUDA GAS FACTORY THE WATER TOWER AND RECEPTACLE TOWERS In 1909 the Capital's Council decided to take the management of gas factories in its own hands. Albert Weiss, director of the Zurich Gas Factory was entrusted with the organisation of the central gas factory. Six months were set for designing. However, in the following year it turned out that not everybody was satisfied with having a foreign engineer for carrying out the designs. Thus Hungarian engineers were appointed, who did excellent work. The group of towers, for a long time symbol of the Gas Factory, was perhaps the most beautiful of all the buildings. Their design - as also the whole arrangement of the Factory - was the work of two Hungarian engineers: Isidor Bernauer and Kálmán Reichl. The equipment of the towers was built by the Ganz Danubius Share Company.
