IPOLY: INDUSTRIAL AND ECONOMIC SOURCE VALUES OF MAPS (1782—1786) As the standby of preciseness and geographical accuracy the map is a very important aid for scientific research work. The material of the First Military Survey, possessed by the Maproom of War History, shows the territory of today's Hungary on 463 of its segments which are on the scale of 1 : 28 000 so they cover about 200 km

2 each. In addition to the historical data on the segments there can be found at least 150—160 symbols of different technical and economic establishments, too. The evaluation of these segments is finished now and we regarded as our main task to make use all the cartographic materials which could complete the written sources. Showing the method of evaluation of the segments the purpose of this elaboration is to aid the utilization of the cartographic materials.
