GYULA RÉZ MECHANIZATION OF THE AGRICULTURE THE REFORM ERA The boom on a large scale of the agricultural technique started after the industrial revolution from Western Europe. The level of the mechanization in Hungary fell behind the leading level of Western Europe at the beignning. The production of machines and tools occurred first of all in the cartwright and forge-shops in the villages and on the estates. Some landed properties put to work the streamlined machines and tools coming from Western Europe firstly from England and Germany . The high school of Georgicon established at Keszthely belonged to the starting section of the reformation of the domestic agriculture founded by count György Festetich, the existence of which for a half century fell in the most lively era of the Hungarian history. The foundation of the Georgicon at Keszthely was on a word scale also a mile stone of the high school education in the field of the agriculture. The highest reputation in the production of ploughs had the master smith István Vidats. The ploughs of master Vidats were generally known in 1845 in the country and the contemporary press showed those tools favorably for the reading public. The count István Széchenyi had gained great distinctions is the field of the foundation and contol of associations and corporations promoting the developmet of the agriculture. Among the objectives the " achievement of the boom of domestic agriculture, and to lift every branch up to the highest possible level of the profitability" played an accentuated role. The mechanization of the agriculture had not been neglected question of the domestic agriculture since the beginning of the reform era. Széchenyi and his contemporaries had recognized this at the proper point of time and had rendered a great service in the field that the machines and tools - in spite of the not easy acceptance - brought nearer to the farmers. 69
