built here in 1873. Between 1873 and 1959 132 various types of steam locomotives have been built. One of the most successful and worldwide acknowledged type was the class 424 steam locomotive. The first unit of this class was built in 1924 for the MÁV. This locomotive got into Jugoslavia during the World War II, where it was in service till 1978. After its withdrawal from service it was on show in the depot of the marshalling yard of Zagreb for 18 years. As a result of bilateral negotiations the Croatian Railway made an offer to hand over the locomotive 424,001 to the MAV and the Transport Museum on the basis of an exchange. The locomotive has been returned to Hungary in September, 1997. In the further part of the article the reader can learn about the reconstruction. The ceremonial inauguration of the locomotive took place on the 10th July, 1998 in the frame of the Railwaymen's Day celebrations in front of the Transport Museum. László Szabó: "The Bridge Garden Of The Transport Museum". The goal of the Author was to demonstrate those original objects being in the oper-air bridge garden of the Museum, which could not have been preserved and exhibited without the ideological and material help and cooperation of various traffic related institutions and companies. The paper deals with the problems in connection with preservation, storing and exhibition of bridge components and finally reveals the questions concerning the development and long-term goals of the bridge garden. 444
