In Part II of the Year-Book méthodologie and transport historic papers can be found. Under the superscription "Museum, Propaganda, Public Education" Dr. László Szitár gives a survey of the "public relations" activity of the museum performed so far, in the mirror of the relevant guidelines of the Party and of the requirements of the state orders concerning museums. He treats the achieved results and further tasks on the scope of advertisement, inner muséologie work (lectures, courses, film performances), as well as publications. An outstanding example of the restoration activity of the museum is the restoration of the so-called Esztergom state carriage, István Lázár's study reports about it following the historic revelation before the restoration work, study of sources and the whole technology of restoration. Dr. Tibor Halász's study summarizes the results of the research work that was performed in the museum in order to reveal the development of public goods transport in Hungary. The dissertation shows —from the 18th century until now — the goods transport performances of all transport branches, based on the gathered set of ample statistical data that has been made comparative and mentioning also the traffic of the main routes and items of goods. From 1888 until 1894 the Hungarian State Railways (MÁV) were in possession of an own fleet and ran an important navigation service. József Biro's study makes us acquainted with the history of the MÁV navigation, with the circumstances of its establishment, its fleet, its performances and causes of its discontinuance. Pál Rév's paper with the superscription: Circumstances of the establishment of the Hungarian aircraft industry gives a concise picture of the development of the Hungarian aviation before World War I, then it shows the foundation and manufacturing activities of the three most important aircraft and motor works in this country. The first Hungarian automobile factory, MARTA, was completed in Arad in 1908. Sándor Bálinťs study reports on the circumstances of the foundation, development, products and production of the factory, together with its part played in the war contracts of World War I; following the history of the factory until its cessation in 1922. Agnes Medveczki's study has the superscription: Evolution of the Budapest urban traffic regulations and deals with the various provisions regulating the order of the traffic in the capital, these regulations have been formulated on the basis of the same principle in 1929 establishing the Uniform Code of Road Traffic Policing. An essential group of the numismatic collection of the museum consists of the Hungarian bridge and tunnel tickets (checks, counters or tokens) that are treated by Mrs. Erzsébet Kóczián-Szentpéteri's study. It demonstrates the role of the checks, their main types, as well as the stocks and important pieces of the collection. The Hungarian Navigator's Calendar was one of the longest lasting series in the family of the special transport calendars in this country. István Tisza's study follows the history of the foundation, development and cessation of this publication. Part III. of the Year-Book makes the readers acquainted with some objects of the collections of the museum being important from the aspect of transport history or museology, generally in the form of concise publications. One of the most precious pieces of the railway collection of the museum is the model of the locomotive "Derű" from 1847, the authentic history of which has been elucidated by recent research (Mariann Koltai). The oldest steam locomotive in Hungary is the series 29 locomotive of the Southern Railway that has been purchased by the Transport Museum in exchange from the Vienna Eisenbahnmuseum (József Mináry). The representative of modern railway operating is a model in scale 1:10 of the control car of a suburb shuttle train consist of the MÁV, that the museum has had made in 1971 (Mariann Koltai). An interesting and precious piece of the navigation collection is the model in scale 1 :50 of the steamship "Árpád", the original of which was the first product of the Óbuda Shipyard built in 1836 (József Bíró). 397
